1. Use stainless steel throughout
Always specify stainless steel fixings. Coated or plated alternatives will corrode, leading to staining and premature failure.
2. Match grade to exposure
Use A2 stainless steel for general external conditions. Upgrade to A4 (marine grade) in coastal, high-exposure or polluted environments.
3. Screws allow more flexibility than nails
Cladding fixed with screws instead of nails can be removed and reinstalled intact.
4. Coordinate with the full build-up
Fixings should be considered alongside battens, membranes and ventilation detailing to ensure the system performs as intended.
5. Define fixing strategy early
Decide between visible and hidden fixing at design stage to avoid compromises on site.
