Our premium engineered oak flooring offers the classic elegance of oak coupled with enhanced stability and easy installation. Imported from Heywood in the Netherlands, it combines a high-quality oak veneer with a robust birch-ply base, making it ideal for modern homes, commercial spaces, and underfloor heating installations.

Engineered oak flooring retains the warmth, grain, and durability of solid oak while offering superior performance. Its multi-layer construction minimises expansion and contraction, making it perfect for use over underfloor heating and damp subfloors. It also allows for faster fitting and lighter tooling compared to solid oak.

Unfinished engineered oak

These oak floors come uncoated so that you can apply your oil of choice once the floor is laid. We offer a range of widths, thicknesses and grades to order, and we stock a 220mm-wide Character Grade Oak for immediate collection or swift delivery. Once installed, choose your preferred lacquer, oil, or wax finish.

Pre-finished Heywood range

We are proud to offer the Heywood range of pre-finished engineered oak flooring. Manufactured in Europe, this premium collection includes smoked, brushed, and oiled finishes all applied in Europe. The Heywood range offers beautiful textures and tones straight from the factory, ready to use upon delivery.

Since opening our workshop Murray & Gould Ltd in 2022, Vasterns Timber has become our first choice timber merchant. It certainly helps being local, which got us through the door the first time around, but it’s the service and quality of products that keeps us going back.
It’s so easy to make an appointment giving details of what timber and dimensions you wish to select.
The timber is made accessible and ready by the time of the appointment which saves so much time. You are taken through the process by ‘Wolf’, who is happy to help however he can to find the timber boards that you require. He’s incredibly patient and helpful so you don’t feel at all rushed or pressured to select unsatisfactory boards, as is often the case elsewhere.
The prices have been good every time we’ve been and very fair on any ‘character’ in the boards.
If they have, or can source, the species we need, then they are our first port of call. Having been shown round the whole site by Wolf, we have a great picture of the huge stock that is available and the variations within them.

Installation & care

Easy fit: Engineered oak flooring can be nailed, glued, floated or hidden nailed – no acclimatisation required!
Underfloor heating-ready: Our 200mm boards are approved to be installed above underfloor heating!
Finish care: After installation, we recommend leaving your pre-finished boards untouched for two weeks for optimal finish curing. Unfinished boards will require site finishing.

Profiles

Our engineered oak floors are supplied machined to a tongue and groove profile (T&G) on all four edges. The top edges of the boards are bevelled.

Installation

Acclimatisation

Engineered boards can be laid straight from the packet. There is no need to acclimatise.

Coating care

The coatings on the prefinished oak boards may not be fully cured when you receive your floor. Treat the surface carefully and do not use any cleaning products on the floor for at least two weeks after laying.

Underfloor heating

We do recommend 20mm engineered oak boards for use over underfloor heating.

Coating

Once laid unfinished oak boards will need sanding and finishing with your chosen flooring specific coating. Prefinished boards do not require any further coating.
