Decking Accessories

The long-term performance of timber decking depends on more than just the boards. Correctly specified fixings and accessories are essential to ensure durability, stability and a consistent finish over time.
Premature failure of decking is often linked to poor fixing choices or inadequate detailing at the interface between deck boards and the supporting structure.
We stock a carefully selected range of decking accessories designed to address common challenges including movement, moisture retention and ease of installation.
As with cladding, we strongly recommend stainless steel fixings for all external decking. Lower-grade alternatives will corrode, leading to staining, fixing failure and reduced service life.

Specification Guidance

When specifying fixings and accessories for timber decking, we recommend that you consider the following:

1. Use stainless steel throughout
Prevents corrosion, staining and premature failure

2. Match grade to exposure
Use A2 for general use and A4 for coastal or high-exposure environments

3. Allow for movement
Deck boards will expand and contract. Fixing systems must accommodate this

4. Manage moisture
Ensure ventilation and drainage at the board/substructure interface

5. Consider maintenance and replacement
Select a fixing system that allows individual boards to be removed if required

Stainless steel decking screws

Direct fixing remains the most common method for installing decking boards, offering speed, simplicity and ease of replacement.

We offer both A2 (304) and A4 (316) stainless steel screws to suit different exposure conditions:

  • A2 stainless steel – suitable for most decking applications in typical UK conditions
  • A4 stainless steel – recommended for coastal, high-exposure or polluted environments
