Brimstone Timber Cladding

Brimstone is a range of British grown hardwoods that have undergone a process called thermal modification in our Wiltshire based plant. The process only involves heat, nothing else. No chemicals are used.

Options include Brimstone ash cladding, Brimstone poplar cladding, and Brimstone sycamore cladding.

All Brimstone products have been tested and achieve Class 1 durability, which suggests an expected lifespan of at least 60 years when used externally above ground.

If left uncoated, the walnut-brown colour will fade over the first few months to a silver-grey.

The thermal modification changes the structure of the wood thereby reducing shrinkage and expansion, and minimising cupping, warping, and distortion.

Yes, thermally modified wood is more brittle than natural timber, so care must be taken during handling and fixing.

Brimstone wood can be machined to any of our cladding profiles, including those with hidden fixings. The most commonly chosen profiles are VHL4 and VTG6 for vertical boards and VHL6 and VTG5A for horizontal boards

Boards can be nailed or screwed, but always pilot drill to prevent splitting. If screwing we also recommend countersinking the pilot hole to prevent crushing around the hole.

Thanks to its stability, Brimstone can be fitted at any time of year.
