Welcome to Vastern Timber.
We have been involved with the furniture industry for over one hundred years, since Leonard Barnes first started manufacturing reproduction furniture from his factories in High Wycombe. That industry has become increasingly competitive, and the recent influx of Chinese-made furniture has affected the market even more. Vastern Timber has always had a good reputation based on quality products, and we will continue to supply specialist grades and specifications of exclusively British hardwoods.
British timbers are some of the most beautiful and unique in the world. The character, the grains and the variety of colours are unsurpassed, which is why so many joiners, kitchen manufacturers and furniture makers choose British hardwoods.
We hold some of the largest stocks of British air-dried and kiln-dried hardwoods in the UK. All of our timber is sawn, air-dried and kilned on the premises, thereby ensuring total control over the production process.
Our flexible approach to grading means that we can offer prime quality stock, as well as alternative grades to suit your needs and those of your client. If your customers have specific requirements for a particular type of wood, we are always happy to involve you in its selection.
Most stock is offered with two waney edges and in widths from 200mm upwards; it will be in random lengths from 1.8 metres to 4.2 metres. Extra-wide widths and long lengths are sometimes available, but we advise you to check this with us in advance.
We also offer a cutting and planning service, so you don’t need to worry about waste factors or lack of manpower.

- Burr oak
- Character/rustic oak
- Brown oak
- Quarter sawn British oak
- Rippled sycamore
- Pippy/burr elm
- Yew
- British maple
